The University of A Coruña (UDC), Spanish partner of the EMERGE European University Alliance, hosted the Evaluation Session of Work Package 2 – Community Engagement on 19 September 2025 at its Faculty of Law.
The event opened with remarks by Ana Ares, Vice-Rector for Social Responsibility and the Ferrol Campus, who highlighted the importance of reinforcing the university’s ties with its surrounding community. Following her address, Carmen Garcimartín, local coordinator of WP2 at UDC, presented the provisional report prepared for discussion and invited participants to share their perspectives.
The session brought together institutions, professionals, trade unions and community organisations, all of whom contributed reflections and proposals aimed at strengthening UDC’s ongoing work on social commitment. Discussions focused on identifying the university’s strengths in community engagement, recognising areas still under development, exploring fields with potential for growth, and considering the opportunities and risks that may shape the future of this work.
The event concluded with an open debate where participants exchanged ideas and recommendations, underscoring the value of external perspectives in shaping institutional strategies.
Through this initiative, the University of A Coruña reaffirmed its dedication to a participatory and collaborative process. By placing inclusivity and dialogue at the centre of its approach, UDC continues to strengthen the EMERGE Alliance’s shared mission of empowering regional universities and fostering meaningful community engagement.
