On Saturday, May 24, 2025, the EMERGE European University Alliance participated in the 33rd International Congress of Physical Education and Sport Science, hosted by Democritus University of Thrace in Komotini, Greece.
As part of the scientific programme of the Congress, a dedicated EMERGE roundtable was organised to foster dialogue and collaboration among departments and faculties of sport and physical education across the Alliance. The session brought together representatives from the University of A Coruña, the University of Inland Norway, the University of Limerick, Université Rennes 2, and Democritus University of Thrace.
The discussion focused on the presentation of academic curricula, ongoing research activities, and institutional strategies for community engagement. It served as an opportunity to highlight the diversity of approaches to sport sciences within EMERGE and to explore areas of common interest and potential cooperation.
Emphasis was placed on the role of inclusive education, interdisciplinary research, and public engagement as essential components of a socially responsive academic mission. The event demonstrated the Alliance’s commitment to building meaningful academic partnerships that respond to regional and European priorities.
The participation of EMERGE in this international setting reinforces its strategic goals of promoting academic excellence, empowering peripheral regions, and fostering collaborative approaches to higher education and research.
