The 89th Thessaloniki International Fair offered a vibrant opportunity for Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) and the EMERGE European University Alliance to connect with the public. Throughout the fair, the DUTH pavilion hosted EMERGE, welcoming thousands of visitors eager to learn about the Alliance that unites nine universities from eight countries, all located in the “Margins” of Europe under a shared vision of inclusion, collaboration, and opportunity.
The EMERGE stand became a dynamic meeting point, where students, academics, professionals, and representatives of the Greek government and political parties engaged in meaningful conversations, exchanging ideas about the future of European higher education. In an atmosphere marked by openness and optimism, the EMERGE team presented the Alliance’s work: fostering student and staff mobility, supporting joint research, developing innovative study programmes, and creating initiatives that bring Europe’s communities closer together.
Public engagement was strong. Young visitors sought information about studying abroad, faculty members expressed enthusiasm for cross-border collaborations, and many guests were impressed by DUTH’s role within EMERGE in advancing regional development and inclusion through education and research.
The participation at the Fair demonstrated that EMERGE is more than a consortium of universities. It is a living network of people and ideas committed to social responsibility and shared progress. Every discussion, brochure, and exchange at the DUTH pavilion reflected EMERGE’s core values: inclusion, solidarity, resilience, and cultural diversity.
Through its presence at Thessaloniki International Fair, EMERGE sent a clear message: European cooperation in higher education is not an abstract goal but a tangible reality, built every day through collaboration, creativity, and a collective belief in a more connected and equitable Europe.
