From 21 to 23 October 2025, Neapolis University Pafos hosted the Work Package 7 workshop of the EMERGE European University Alliance, dedicated to the development of the Alliance’s Plurilingual Language Policy (PLP). The three-day seminar brought together academic representatives and experts from the nine partner universities to co-create a shared framework that promotes linguistic diversity and intercultural understanding across EMERGE campuses.
The workshop opened with a welcome address by Professor Pantelis Sklias, Rector of Neapolis University Pafos, who reaffirmed the Alliance’s commitment to inclusion, cooperation, and the celebration of Europe’s linguistic and cultural richness. His remarks underlined the vital role of plurilingualism in connecting universities, communities, and regions across the continent.
Throughout the sessions, participants worked collaboratively on the first draft of the EMERGE Plurilingual Language Policy, defining its structure, principles, and implementation strands. Discussions focused on promoting multilingual communication in teaching and research, ensuring accessibility for all learners, and supporting minority and regional languages as integral parts of Europe’s cultural heritage.
The work seminar was organised by Neapolis University Pafos in collaboration with Université Rennes 2, which coordinated the policy design process. The outcomes of the workshop will guide the finalisation of the Plurilingual Language Policy, strengthening EMERGE’s vision of a truly connected, inclusive, and culturally diverse European Higher Education Area.
