Writing in the Margins – The Roundtable

April 27 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The round table accompanies the exhibition with members of the Interfriches artists’ collective, titled “Writing from the margins”. The discussion focuses on artistic practices rooted in peripheral spaces and collective forms of authorship. The round table will be recorded and made available online to extend participation beyond the campus

The roundtable features The Roundtable features Simon Blanckaert (University of Mons), Caroline Cieslik (EESAB), Tristan Deplus (Rennes 2), Marion Nielsen (ENSAD-PSL), moderated by Justinien Tribillon (ENSAD-PSL).

Areas of discontinued activity, stalled projects—wastelands are territories of renunciation or abandonment. Paradoxically, in recent years they have become highly sought after in many European metropolises. Whether land or natural reserves, built or developed as part of urban planning projects, they tend to disappear.

Yet they are spaces of resistance and resilience from which we still have much to learn. They host specific forms of human and non-human life, often characterized by nomadic, temporary, and migratory dynamics. Without a defined project, they escape the demands of productivity, the ever-present growth logics of capitalism, and centralized power.

How can we continue to work and create (with these spaces) without saturating them with flows of people and information—these refuge spaces whose uses are often ephemeral? Through research and/or creative projects that lie between observation and occupation, this roundtable explores both the specific nature of these territories, perceived as margins, and the methods and practices for engaging with them.
