A new space for language learning and cultural exchange has opened at Europa-Universität Flensburg (EUF) as part of the EMERGE European University Alliance. The Schnack-Ø (Chat Island), located in the Central University Library and developed in cooperation with the Language Center, invites students and staff to explore languages in an interactive and self-directed way.

The space offers a welcoming and informal setting where learners can discover German, English, Danish, French, and Spanish at their own pace. Equipped with a wide range of modern resources, it supports both beginners and advanced learners who wish to complement their formal studies or embark on new linguistic journeys independently.

The Schnack-Ø includes a cosy corner for language games, curated materials for effective self-study, and a rotation of interactive activities that make language practice both engaging and social. Once a week, Language Center staff are available to guide learners and answer questions, while monthly language game sessions encourage informal conversation and community building.

This initiative reflects EMERGE’s commitment to multilingualism, learner autonomy, and inclusive education across its partner universities. By creating shared spaces that promote language practice and intercultural connection, EMERGE continues to strengthen its mission of empowering Europe’s margins through collaboration, diversity, and innovation.
